Why should ALPRs be removed?

• Warrantless mass surveillance. The cameras photograph every passing car, feeding a network of 120,000+ readers that police can search without a warrant or any clear reason.

• ‍ ‍Documented abuse.. Officers have used it for personal tracking, including one who searched 88 networks to track a former classmate over 7 days, logging the reason as "suspicious activity."

• It's frequently inaccurate. In August 2026, a Flock alert led Brookfield police to pull over Amber Newell on I-94 with guns drawn after her car was wrongly flagged in a Milwaukee homicide (she says it happened to her twice that week).
